General Manager

Job Summary:

The General Manager is responsible for providing leadership for the operations of the club. In this role, the General Manager has full responsibility for their club and runs it like a business owner constantly seeking ways to improve revenue and eliminate unnecessary expenses. The General Manager works directly with the Area Manager or Regional Director to deliver In-Shape s business brand, member experience and business goals through the following areas:

Drive Business Results:

  • Deliver EBITDA Results: Revenue (Dues, PT, Retail), Controllable Costs Management (Payroll, Supplies) and EBTIDA.
  • Reviews Daily KPIs and identifies trends to find opportunities to improve upon or ones to praise
  • Actively participate and deliver clubs New Member Sales (NMU and EFT) goals.
  • Ensure successful execution of marketing programs at the club level to generate retention and conversion.
  • Directs and supervise team to seek out and seize daily opportunities to convert guests to club members.
  • Increase Net Memberships through achieving goals, improving retention, and driving ancillary review.
  • Delivering on Personal Training Sales and Sessions Serviced goals.
  • Ability to understand and manage business metrics and use current reports (e. g. Salesforce, etc.) to drive the business.
  • Decrease unnecessary and controllable expenses. Working within established budgets and identifying areas that we can be more efficient

Deliver the Member Experience:

  • Ability to run a club that delivers on a Welcoming, Engaging, Intuitive, and Motivating Experience
  • Maintain a safe, clean, well run club.
  • Proactively interacts with member to gather feedback and ensure club team is delivering on our member experience.
  • Works alongside staff to complete tasks thru leading be example to improve our member experience.
  • Consistent use of key systems for scheduling, ordering, etc. including Novatime, Happy Fox, Payroll, Maintenance Connection, etc.)
  • Actively manage key areas like OT, Missed Punches, Facilities requests, etc.
  • Able to consistently manage a range of amenities (pools, kids club etc.)

Operations Excellence:

  • Lead and manage all Club Operations including but not limited to: scheduling, facilities, cost management, safety and compliance.
  • Assist in ensuring policies and regulations are in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • A full understanding of expectations and responsibilities of all roles within the clubs.
  • Continuous improvement of the club team to ensure that we have the right team in place to deliver upon our Mission, Brand Pillars, and Behaviors.
  • Maximizes Visits to ensure that we are delivering the experience we want for our Members and Team Members.

Leadership and Development of Operations Team:

  • Successfully develop teams across all departments (Housekeeping, Kids Club, Membership, Front Desk) where all team members are meeting expectations and developing in their roles and retention of team members is improving.
  • Responsible for hiring and onboarding of talent.
  • Ability to successfully identify, assess, and hire candidates for different roles.
  • Responsible to hold team accountable to In-Shape Standards.
  • Train and ensure 10 Steps to Join & Welcome.
  • Lead team Huddle, Club Meetings, and all communication with club team so everyone knows the club priorities) etc.
  • Ensure team members complete all required training.
  • Ability to successfully partner with different cross functional teams within the In-Shape business.
  • Partner with club team leads and AM/RD to identify future leaders within the club team.
  • Partner with club team leads and AM/RD to provide continuous feedback to the club team members.
  • Actively participate and deliver the Performance Review Process.
  • Partners with AM/RD to build Business Acumen of club teams with monthly review of Monthly Manager s Report (MMR) to help our leads become true 4-Wall Operators of their business.

Modeling the In-Shape Behaviors:

  • Personally leads and models the Behaviors with their club.
  • Ensures that their club team members are modeling the Behaviors with our valued members.
  • Review club Social Media results to identify opportunities for improvement or where to praise for delivering on-target results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with AM/RD to understand the strategic direction of the organization and lead that within their area.
  • Serves as an ambassador for his/her area and helps communicate feedback from the field to Management and Support Center.
  • Understands the members in their clubs, identifies their needs, and works with Support Center team to ensure we are on target with initiatives that impact them.
  • Partner with AM/RD to recommend and provide individual coaching to specific team members as agreed upon.
  • Provide AM/RD with insight and input into the Talent Assessment process of their team.
  • Participate in new Operations Learning and Development (OLD) initiatives being rolled out to the field and provide feedback on effectiveness and/or opportunities to improve.
  • Advise AM/RD on any changes within the markets of the area and the competition.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • College degree in business, retail or hospitality desired.
  • Desired knowledge, experience, and understanding of Fitness including; equipment, personal training, and group fitness.
  • Ability to move for establishing new markets.
  • Prior experience as an Assistant General Manager or Sales Manager, preferably within the Fitness Industry or similar Retail experience.
  • Strong operations experience and operations leadership skills.
  • Proven success in developing and promoting people.
  • CPR/AED certification required first 30 days of hire.
  • High regard and propensity for safety.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, changes in temperature/humidity; moving mechanical parts and vibration and exercise equipment; frequently required to stand, walk 4-8hours/8 hour day; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; and frequently use both feet and move them forward/backward and side to side; seldom required to sit; frequently to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and continuously reach and twist, including side-to-side movements; carry or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
